Following upon the Postman Cheval's Ideal Palace show presented at the Collection de l'Art Brut in commemoration of the Palace's 100th anniversary, the Lausanne museum has been invited to exhibit at the Ideal Palace, under the auspices of the latter's summer events program. We are sad to announce the death of the African Art Brut creator Ataa Oko (born ca. 1919 in La, Ghana) on December 9, 2012. The Collection de l'Art Brut is in possession of 93 of his drawings. Ataa Oko's work was featured at a solo show at the Collection de l'Art Brut in 2010, accompanied by an exhibition catalogue with a wealth of illustrations. A selection of his drawings is currently on display in our Permanent Collection, on the 1st floor (above the ground floor) of the museum. Works by this creator can also be seen at the Museum of Ethnography of Neuchâtel (the "MEN"), under the auspices of its current "Hors-champs" (Off-Screen) show running from 3 November 2012 thru 20 October 2013. |

An occasion to meet J. Porret Forel, who was personally acquainted with Aloïse and who drew up the catalogue raisonné of her oeuvre. Under the auspices of the Aloïse. The Solar Ricochet exhibition, the Parti de l'Art Brut has invited Jacqueline Porret-Forel for a meeting and discussion. Jacqueline Porret-Forel, a physician, paid visits to Aloïse (1886-1964) over a period of twenty years, introducing Jean Dubuffet to the latter's work. She devoted much of her life to preserving and studying this major Art Brut creator's work. In April 2012, she took charge of publishing a catalogue raisonné of Aloïse's oeuvre (www.aloise-corbaz.ch). This meeting is reserved to members of the Parti de l'Art Brut. Built from 1879 to 1912, Facteur (postman)Cheval's Palais Idéal in France boasts one hundred years of existence. In commemoration thereof, the Collection de l'Art Brut will be presenting an exhibition of photographs from September 4 thru 30, 2012, together with screening several films. For this year's Museum Night (September 22), the museum will feature a guided tour in sign language, as well as several children's workshops focused on building an ideal palace. The resulting collective creation is to be illuminated by 100 candles, with Marie-José Georges, the current director of Facteur Cheval's Palais Idéal, in attendance. |

Summer 2012 will witness the greatest event ever organized on behalf of Aloïse (1886-1964)—a creator considered by Jean Dubuffet, who launched the Art Brut concept, as one of the movement's greatest figures. The Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne and the Cantonal Fine Arts Museum of Lausanne will be jointly presenting the Aloïse exhibition under the heading "Le ricochet solaire" [the solar ricochet]. They are doing so upon the occasion of the publication of the online catalogue raisonné of Aloïse's oeuvre by the Aloïse Foundation. The event will also see the publication of a reference book, a booklet, and a boxed set of CDs devoted notably to writings by Aloïse. |

Henriette Zéphir passed away on May 27, 2012, at the age of ninety-two. She was one of the last Art Brut creators to have personally known Jean Dubuffet, whom she met in Nice in 1966. Dubuffet acquired about twenty of her drawings, now housed at the Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne. Henriette Zéphir took up drawing in the early sixties, and her drawings were shown at, notably, the Halle St-Pierre Museum in Paris. The documentary film Henriette Zéphir, une femme sous influence [Henriette Zéphir, A Woman Under the Influence], 17', by Mario Del Curto, Bastien Genoux and Alain Bouillet, has just been released.
