Following upon the Postman Cheval's Ideal Palace show presented at the Collection de l'Art Brut in commemoration of the Palace's 100th anniversary, the Lausanne museum has been invited to exhibit at the Ideal Palace, under the auspices of the latter's summer events program.
Mounted jointly with the Collection de l'Art Brut, the show at this Art Brut environment will present panels carrying texts and photographs of works by some thirty Art Brut creators.

Ms. Lombardi's wide experience in the realm of art brut, her in-depth knowledge of the museum and the many new projects that she plans to launch promise to enable this worldwide unique institution to face the various stakes of tomorrow.

Our October 2012 invitation to tender for the position of director of the Collection de l'Art Brut attracted 30 applications. After carefully reviewing the application files, we requested a selection of candidates to submit a development project for the museum, including such facets as conservation, programming and showcasing, as well as the public welcome service and the site's further development. Thereupon, and with the approval of the Collection de l'Art Brut's Advisory Council, the City Council decided to accept the candidacy of Sarah Lombardi.

Born in 1972, Sarah Lombardi took a degree in the history of art at the University of Lausanne, which she went on to complete with research and curatorial studies in the realm of art brut, in Quebec. She is totally familiar with the Collection de l'Art Brut, having worked there since 2004 as a research assistant, curator and, finally, director ad interim since January 1, 2012. During all her years with the institution, she has coordinated various exhibitions, both here in Lausanne and abroad—including, notably, "Dubuffet and Art Brut" in 2005 in Lausanne and Düsseldorf, and "Japan" in 2008 in Vienna. Ms. Lombardi has directed and participated in numerous publications on the subject of art brut, and has been acting as full director of the museum for one year now.

Ms. Lombardi is highly acclaimed for her skills in the field, for her rallying and energetic personality and for her enthusiasm on behalf of art brut. As such, she has in mind to highlight the museum's riches (some 60,000 works) to their best advantage through large-size two-yearly thematic presentations. Such exhibitions will feature exclusively productions stemming from the museum's collections, thus reintroducing certain historic creators to the wide public. The underlying idea is to reassert the unique status of the Lausanne Collection de l'Art Brut's "parent collection" at a time when art brut is gaining ever greater international recognition.

Erik Friedlander will be giving a unique (his only presentation in Switzerland) solo concert at the Collection de l’Art Brut. A virtuoso musician, he performed the film score for Family Found. The Lifetime Obsession of Morton Bartlett, screened for the Morton Bartlett exhibition. The film score was composed by New York's avant-gardist John Zorn, a great admirer of Bartlett's work. For this event, and specially on behalf of the Collection de l'Art Brut, Erik Friedlander will be performing a repertory of compositions by John Zorn.

We are sad to announce the death of the African Art Brut creator Ataa Oko (born ca. 1919 in La, Ghana) on December 9, 2012. The Collection de l'Art Brut is in possession of 93 of his drawings.
Ataa Oko's work was featured at a solo show at the Collection de l'Art Brut in 2010, accompanied by an exhibition catalogue with a wealth of illustrations.
A selection of his drawings is currently on display in our Permanent Collection, on the 1st floor (above the ground floor) of the museum.
Works by this creator can also be seen at the Museum of Ethnography of Neuchâtel (the "MEN"), under the auspices of its current "Hors-champs" (Off-Screen) show running from 3 November 2012 thru 20 October 2013.

Generously donated to the Collection de l’Art Brut, Holocaust, a piece by the French self-taught artist Pascal Verbena (Neuve Invention) born in Marseille in 1941, will go on display at the Collection de l'Art Brut from 22 November 2012, together with works from Rosemarie Koczÿ and Michel Nedjar.

Verbena executed his masterwork, which recounts the Shoa (the Hebrew term for the Holocaust), as a tribute to his grandfather, who was deported to the Fréjus (France) concentration camp.

This monumental work, over four meters long, is Verbena's largest creation to date. It belongs to his Reredos Series, assemblage sculptures mainly of salvaged driftwood and comprising a multitude of drawers and secret compartments. The Holocaust sculptures contain graveyard soil and the photos of persons considered to have disappeared. Completed in 1988, until now this piece was set up in a private apartment in New York.

Beginning in November 2012, the Collection de l'Art Brut will feature a newly designed exhibition layout for its permanent collection: the 1st floor's room will present some works on the thematic of the Holocaust with Verbena's masterpiece in the center, together with pieces by Rosemarie Kocsy (Neuve Invention) et de Michel Nedjar.

The India ink drawings on the walls are by Holocaust survivor Rosemarie Koczÿ; they belong to her I Am Weaving You a Shroud series that draws on the simple white shroud belonging to the Jewish burial rite. Living in the United States, the act of sending her drawings by dozens to the Collection de l'Art Brut was her way of offering a worthy and respectful burial to those whose death she had witnessed in the camps. Later, she went on to produce carved wood bas-reliefs.

To accompany these works, the Collection de l'Art Brut displays pieces by Michel Nedjar. Although many members of his family suffered under the Nazis during World War II, it was only in 1960 that the extent of their devastation really hit Michel Nedjar. At that point he began creating works out of cast-off cloth rags he picked up in the Goutte d'Or district of Paris, going on to create dolls that looked more like gargoyles or terrifying totems. Subsequently, he took up drawing on supports salvaged from, in the main, flea markets.

The exhibition Aloïse. The Solar Ricochet closes on October 28, 2012.

An occasion to meet J. Porret Forel, who was personally acquainted with Aloïse and who drew up the catalogue raisonné of her oeuvre.

Under the auspices of the Aloïse. The Solar Ricochet exhibition, the Parti de l'Art Brut has invited Jacqueline Porret-Forel for a meeting and discussion.

Jacqueline Porret-Forel, a physician, paid visits to Aloïse (1886-1964) over a period of twenty years, introducing Jean Dubuffet to the latter's work. She devoted  much of her life to preserving and studying this major Art Brut creator's work. In April 2012, she took charge of publishing a catalogue raisonné of Aloïse's oeuvre (www.aloise-corbaz.ch).

This meeting is reserved to members of the Parti de l'Art Brut.

Built from 1879 to 1912, Facteur (postman)Cheval's Palais Idéal in France boasts one hundred years of existence. In commemoration thereof,  the Collection de l'Art Brut will be presenting an exhibition of photographs from September 4 thru 30, 2012, together with screening several films.

For this year's Museum Night (September 22), the museum will feature a guided tour in sign language, as well as several children's workshops focused on building an ideal palace. The resulting collective creation is to be illuminated by 100 candles, with Marie-José Georges, the current director of Facteur Cheval's Palais Idéal, in attendance.

Release of the book Collection de l’Art Brut, published by Skira Flammarion under the direction of Lucienne Peiry. This catalogue of the collections, signed by Sarah Lombardi and Lucienne Peiry, is available in French, English and German.

On September 8th and 9th (2012), the Parti de l'Art Brut (friends of Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne) travelled to France to visit Jean Linard's "cathedral" in Neuvy-Deux-Clochers, and the "Village of Preludian [prelude to the world to come] Art"—an environment by Roger Chomeaux (aka "Chomo") in the Fontainebleau forest.

Summer 2012 will witness the greatest event ever organized on behalf of Aloïse (1886-1964)—a creator considered by Jean Dubuffet, who launched the Art Brut concept, as one of the movement's greatest figures. The Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne and the Cantonal Fine Arts Museum of Lausanne will be jointly presenting the Aloïse exhibition under the heading "Le ricochet solaire" [the solar ricochet].  They are doing so upon the occasion of the publication of the online catalogue raisonné of Aloïse's oeuvre by the Aloïse Foundation. The event will also see the publication of a reference book, a booklet, and a boxed set of CDs devoted notably to writings by Aloïse.

The 15th edition of the Festival of Singular Art Films, organized by the "Hors-Champs" Association, is scheduled  for  June 1 and 2, 2012, in Nice. Three films - Guo Fengyi et les rouleaux magiques, Gregory Blackstock, l’encyclopédiste and La valise de Lobanov - produced by the Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne, are to be screened there.

From dawn to dusk today May 31st: broadcasts on Art Brut on the Swiss French-language radio station Espace 2—numerous programs enabling listeners to immerse themselves in the extraordinary world of men and women who have left their mark on this unconventional art. A special day filled with talks by experts, readings of diary excerpts and musical pieces. Moreover, today as well we welcome the release of a double CD brought out by the Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne jointly with the Swiss broadcasting corporation RTS: "Brut writings speak out."

Henriette Zéphir passed away on May 27, 2012, at the age of ninety-two. She was one of the last Art Brut creators to have personally known Jean Dubuffet, whom she met in Nice in 1966. Dubuffet acquired about twenty of her drawings, now housed at the Collection de l’Art Brut of Lausanne.

Henriette Zéphir took up drawing in the early sixties, and her drawings were shown at, notably, the Halle St-Pierre Museum in Paris. The documentary film Henriette Zéphir, une femme sous influence [Henriette Zéphir, A Woman Under the Influence], 17', by Mario Del Curto, Bastien Genoux and Alain Bouillet, has just been released.
