Relieved of his parish work against his will due to his failing hearing,  "L'Abbé Fouré" (1839-1910), as he continued to be called, set out to carve the granite cliffs overhanging the sea at Rothéneuf, from 1894 to 1907. During that period he produced over 300  in-situ rock sculptures, together with sculptures in wood,  turning the house in which he lived as a recluse into  the "Musée Bois" (wood museum).
