Call for contributions: Art Brut News and Critical Stakes

A colloquium on the continuation of the Interdisciplinary PhD Program at the University of Lausanne (Fdi, UNIL), jointly with the Collection de l’Art Brut and the French Department (UNIL)

Thursday and Friday November 3 and 4, 2016, UNIL

The year 2016 represents the Lausanne Collection de l'Art Brut's fortieth anniversary.
Today, Art Brut covers a body of works created by self-taught authors on the fringes of the official art circuit, a discourse on art and, too, a realm of prospecting and collecting.

With this in mind, the colloquium, launched by the Collection de l'Art Brut jointly with the University of Lausanne, will take an interdisciplinary approach in striving to understand what art "brut" entails, with respect to both the practices it has adopted and its patrimonial future. Representatives from a variety of fields—art, history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy and more—will pool their views on the subject. Their contribution will be further expanded to include input from several representatives of the art world (artists, conservators, curators, etc.)
