Death of Claude Massé

Claude Massé passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the age of 82.

The creator of an oeuvre in a highly personal vein, Claude Massey produced collages, as well as his so-named  "patots"—figures he carved in cork. His work has often gone on display both in France and abroad: a final exhibition of his creations took place last summer at the Musée de la Création Franche in Bègles (southwestern France), to which he made a bequest of the greater part of his collection.

Claude Massé was also interested in the Art Brut creators of the Eastern Pyrenees, following in the footsteps of Jean Dubuffet. Massé however set himself apart from the latter, by terming his own collection "Other Art."

The Collection de l'Art Brut boasts fourteen works by Claude Massé in its Neuve Invention collections.
